Location, travel and transport
The Burnley Wood development is located on Branch Road, in the east of the city. Burnley is served by junctions 9, 10 and 11 of the M65, connecting it to Accrington, Blackburn and Preston, then on to the M6 and the rest of the UK motorway system.
There are four railway stations in Burnley: Burnley Manchester Road, Burnley Central, Burnley Barracks and Rose Grove. Manchester Road runs an hourly service east to Preston. This connects to the West Coast Main Line, and west to York and Leeds. There are plans to install a direct line to Manchester Victoria.
Amenities
Burnley has a pedestrianised town centre featuring top high street names, like Next, M&S, Boots and TJ Hughes. There is also a good selection of boutique and specialist shops including food shops, independent record shops and independent bookshops.
The town also boasts some of the best mill shopping in the north, offering luxurious home furnishings, clothes and gifts. The largest is Barden Mill with more than 30,000 sq. ft. of shopping.
Sport lovers are well served, with the £29m St Peter's Centre offering swimming, squash courts and a fitness suite, and the nearby Spirit of Sport complex, complete with a large sports hall, several indoor courts and outdoor synthetic pitches.
The Burnley Wood development is close to a number of supermarkets, including Tesco (0.3 mile), Farmfoods (0.5 mile), Sainsbury's (0.7 mile) and ASDA (0.6 mile). In addition, there are a number of nearby takeaways, newsagents and convenience stores.
Out and about
Burnely offers vibrant night life with something for everyone, from pubs and late night clubs to restaurants and theatres. There is also a modern 24 lane ten-pin bowling centre and the large multiplex cinema showing the latest film releases.
The surrounding area offers plenty in the way of activities and excursions. The National Trust owned Gawthorpe Hall is set amongst expansive gardens and woodlands and is home to a huge collection of lace, embroidery and textiles.
The impressive Towneley Hall and Park makes for a the perfect family day out, with an art gallery, a museum of recent history and beautiful gardens, which play host to special events throughout the year.
Burnley is set amongst the stunning Pennine countryside, and with over 400 kilometers of cycle ways, bridleways and footpaths, fans of the great outdoors are spoilt for choice.
